Brett Bymaster is one of the founders of Healing Grove Health Center.
Brett graduated from Purdue University with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Brett spent 15 years as an Analog Chip Designer for medical equipment in Silicon Valley startups, earning several patents for his novel inventions.
Brett then served as the Youth Pastor at The River Church in San Jose CA for 7 years before becoming the Executive Director at the Healing Grove Health Center Foundation. Brett has more than 20 years of experience in helping low income youth and families in urban communities transform their lives through the good news of Jesus. Brett has volunteered at Washington Elementary in the low-income downtown San Jose Washington Community for the past 14 years.
Dr. Cheryl Ho, M.D.
CEO & CMO
Dr. Ho, a Board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, graduated from Stanford University with a bachelors of science in Biological Sciences and then went on to the University of California San Diego School of Medicine for her medical training. She completed her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Dr. Ho was the Medical Director & Co-Founder of the Valley Homeless Healthcare Program where she has worked for nearly two decades. Dr. Ho was the recipient of the 2017 National Underserved Clinician of the Year award and serves as a consultant for both local and national policy initiatives. Cheryl’s husband, Douglas, is a pastor at San Jose Christian Alliance Church and along with Cheryl, is a leader in their new Mountain View church plant, New Vine Community Church.
Community Engagement Director
Maria Marcelo is the president and founder of Madre-A-Madre. Madre-A-Madre is a Latina empowerment program that Maria founded 15 years ago along with then Washington Elementary principal Maria Evans. Madre-A-Madre currently meets every Thursday, under Maria and Brett’s leadership. Maria is a leader, activist, organizer, parent of three grown kids and amazing chef.
Pastors Jairo & Lourdes Sarmiento

Jairo & Lourdes Sarmiento are the lead pastors of Shalom Iglesia Del Pacto in San Jose, CA. They have nearly 40 years of pastoral experience in Central America and the states. Jairo and Lourdes and their two kids live and minister in the downtown San Jose Washington community.
Dr. Angela Bymaster, M.D.
Dr. Bymaster graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency at O’Connor Hospital. Dr. Bymaster is a a Board certified Family Medicine Physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Angie, her husband Brett, and their five kids have been residents of the downtown San Jose Washington Community for the past 13 years.
Sandy Kang was born in Korea and spent most of her childhood in the heart of Los Angeles. Upon completing her studies in Social Welfare at U.C. Berkeley, she pursued a M.A. in Religious Studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She founded Gateway Preschool Academy in the Fall of 2011 and continues to direct the school.
Over the years, she has served as the parent board president and member in her children’s public schools. She also serves on the Central Pacific District Executive Committee of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
Her heart is to empower children, youth, women and families to discover and walk in their full potential.
Julie Bonner graduated from Boise State University with a BA in Accounting. She began her career working for the Internal Revenue Service in San Jose, CA and then moved on to Deloitte where she worked in both the Tax and Audit department.
She has been a CPA for more than 25 years. Julie has her own business where she works with both startups and publicly traded companies assisting the CFO in the areas of SOX, SEC reporting, process improvement, training and special projects.
Thomas Stafford, MD
Dr. Thomas Stafford spent his undergraduate years at Middlebury College, where he studied Biochemistry and Spanish.
Later, he completed an additional year-long fellowship in Faith and Medicine at Tuft University. Dr. Stafford did his residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with the University of Southern California at L.A. County + USC Medical Center.
Throughout his medical training, Dr. Stafford has spent considerable time abroad, researching healthcare for the urban poor in South India and Nicaragua, and teaching public health and medicine in the Middle East.
He currently works at the Turnure Medical Group in Rocklin, CA, as an attending Internist and Pediatrician.
Spanish-Speaking Community Rep
Annabel attended San Jose State University earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with an emphasis on Family and a Minor in Religion. Annabel served as Vocational Advisor and Coordinator for the Centro Latino of Fuller Theological Seminary in Menlo Park, where she also earned her Master of Arts in Theology.
In addition, Annabel has also served her church through her bi-vocational ministry as Youth and Junior High Co-Director where she congregates with the Apostolic Assembly.
Currently, Annabel is the Programs Director for San Jose Bridge Communities where she forms relationships with community members to link them to services, provide educational opportunities and form community leaders all the while, leading them to Christ.
Karen Chiu graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research.
Karen has spent her entire career in the tech industry in various roles in Supply Chain, Operations Planning, Sales Operations, and Business Operations. She is currently Head of Business Operations for Barefoot Networks, a startup that was acquired by Intel Corporation in 2019.
Cindy Miller turned from nursing to professional Pastoral Ministry in 2014 when she was ordained a Deacon in the Anglican Church and started serving in that capacity at her home parish. She also served as the Office Manager and as a board member of the church.
Cindy currently is the Lead Hospital Chaplain at a local community hospital where she cares for the spiritual needs of the patients, families and staff. She is dual-board certified as a Chaplain. In addition she is serving as a Deacon in a new Anglican Church plant in the Bay Area.
